Universal Audio Volt 4 Max USB Audio Interface

The Universal Audio Volt 4 Max is a compact 12-in/6-out USB audio interface designed for recording, mixing, mastering, streaming, and mobile production. It combines 32-bit converters operating at up to 192kHz with dual Tone Shaping Preamps, onboard Max Processing, Auto-Gain, Clip Protection, a full-colour Smart Display, speaker switching, ADAT expansion, MIDI connectivity, loopback, and USB bus-powered operation.

The dual Tone Shaping Preamps provide up to 60dB of gain, with three selectable character modes on each channel. Warmth adds the rounded character of a tube preamp, Focus provides the clarity of a solid-state design, and Shine delivers the open character of a British Class A circuit. Max Processing adds onboard compression with six push-button presets for vocals, guitars, and bass, modelled on the LA-2A and 1176, providing 18 character combinations. Independent 48V phantom power supports condenser microphones.

Auto-Gain sets recording levels quickly, while Clip Protection helps catch unexpected peaks. The full-colour Smart Display provides at-a-glance feedback on inputs, levels, settings, and gain reduction. Two mic/line combo inputs and two front-panel hi-Z instrument inputs support simultaneous recording, while additional line inputs allow connection of outboard gear. ADAT or S/PDIF optical input provides up to eight additional digital channels, and MIDI In and Out support controllers, keyboards, and synthesizers.

The Volt 4 Max also features Main and Alt speaker switching for monitoring mixes through two sets of stereo monitors, along with built-in loopback and a talkback microphone for recording and content creation. It integrates with the UAD Console app and LUNA for session recall and low-latency cue mixes, and includes the UAD Volt Studio bundle with 15+ UAD plugins and instruments, LUNA, Melodyne Essential, and additional software. USB bus-powered operation provides a flexible solution for desktop and portable recording setups.
