A square shoulder with unique personality
Introduced in the early 60s, this famous flame maple-backed square shoulder is intertwined with one of the most revolutionary decades in popular music history. Its maple back and sides and long scale produce crisp, clear tone and projection, while the square-shoulder body adds balance and warmth. The Dove™ Original now comes equipped with the Gibson-exclusive, custom-voiced Baggs™ HiFi DNA™ pickup system, delivering the guitar’s natural voice and every nuance of your playing with exceptional realism when amplified.
The Dove Original pairs a Sitka spruce top with a flame maple back and sides and traditional scalloped X-bracing. Multi-ply binding outlines the top and back, while the gloss nitrocellulose lacquer finish complements the clean lines of the square-shoulder body. Together, the maple construction and 25.5-inch scale help give the Dove the crisp response and clear projection that define its tonal character.
The mahogany neck has a comfortable Rounded profile and joins the body with a compound dovetail neck-to-body joint. It is fitted with a rosewood fretboard with a 12-inch radius, 20 standard frets, and mother-of-pearl parallelogram inlays. The headstock is equipped with nickel Grover® Keystone tuners and a bone nut. Classic Dove details include a traditional Dove truss rod cover and double-antiqued, multi-ply binding, reinforcing the model’s well-known aesthetic.
The rosewood Dove bridge is fitted with a bone saddle and TUSQ® bridge pins. One of the model’s most well-known appointments is the cherished Dove pickguard, featuring an inlaid mother-of-pearl Dove with hand-engraved and painted detailing. These signature elements have helped make the Dove immediately recognizable to generations of Gibson players and fans.
Inside, the Dove Original is now equipped with the all-new Gibson-exclusive Baggs™ HiFi DNA™ pickup system. This active system uses two lightweight sensors mounted on the internal bridge plate. The sensors are matched with optimized individual preamps to deliver full-bodied, amplified acoustic tone that lets the guitar’s character and personality come through when amplified, with no impact on the unamplified tone. The Baggs HiFi DNA system offers comparable gain-before-feedback to an under-saddle pickup. The system also includes soundhole-mounted volume and tone controls that are quick and easy to access while playing, and all but invisible to your audience.
With its long scale, flame maple body, ornate appointments, and distinctive square-shoulder voice, the Dove Original remains a celebrated Gibson acoustic for players across generations and musical styles. It comes ready for the stage and studio in a hardshell case.
